2015 Freshman Honorees

2015 Sophmore Honoree

Ashley Eye

Ashley Eye graduated Lakeside High School where she participated in the Lakeside choir as student Choir Vice President and Assistant Stage Director for musicals. She also competed for and won the 2015 Miss Lakeside title. She also has used her vocal talent throughout her junior high and Highschool years as a volunteer at church and community events. She plans on continuing this trend throughout her college years. She is attending Ouachita Baptist University this fall and plans on majoring in Biology. After college, Ashley plans to go to Medical School and then open a series of free clinics in rural areas of South America. Her goal is to make a difference in the world by loving like Jesus.

Katelyn Heath

Katelyn Heath will be attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville this fall. She graduated from Lake Hamilton High School, participating in the Lake Hamilton Power Band for the last seven years. Katelyn was principal clarinet in the Lake Hamilton Wind Symphony. She was honored to be a member of the All State Band for three years and was the 2015 principal clarinet player in the Four States Honor Band. In her free time, she also enjoys musical theatre and math.

Tyler Monroe

Tyler Monroe graduated from Lakeside High School and will attend Arkansas Tech University, majoring in vocal music education. He has been a part of the Lakeside Chamber Singers for three years, the Lakeside Concert choir for two years, and was a member of the the Showband of Lakeside for three years. Tyler is also a member of the Lakeside Thespian Troupe. He participated in the Lakeside bowling and swim teams. Outside of school, Tyler was a member of the YMCA Seals swim team for four years. He participated in the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Order of the Arrow.

Austin Sowerbutts

Austin Sowerbutts is a local homeschool student and avid musician. He leads musically at Crossgate Church and has been involved with music since early childhood. Austin has been selected as an Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar and will be attending Ouachita Baptist University in the fall. He plans to continue mastering his craft through college and beyond.

Jill Everton

Jill Everton is a sophomore at Arkansas Tech University, where she studies Music Education and Psychology. She graduated from Lake Hamilton High School in 2014 with High Honors and a 4.1 GPA. During high school, Jill was the principal trumpet player in the top wind ensemble at Lake Hamilton, was a six year All Region and a three year All State trumpeter. She received the John Philip Sousa Band Award and was Lake Hamilton High School's Football Homecoming Queen.

The Fun City Chorus intends to award annual scholarships each year to students who intend to participate in a music program at their chosen two or four year institution. The amount of money available may be different each year. For 2015, four scholarships of $500 each were awarded to three local high school seniors and one returning college sophmore. For 2014, five scholarships were awarded totaling $2,500; and in 2013, the chorus awarded 4 scholarships totaling $2,000.

These scholarships will be used for tuition, fees, and/or books only and are awarded with the intent that this lightens the financial burden of these budding musicians.

The names of the scholarship recipients will be listed here once all scholarships are accepted.

General Timeline for 2016 Scholarship Applicants

February Announcements of scholarship availability are sent to area high school counselors and music teachers.
April 10 Application deadline
April-May Applications are reviewed by the Chorus and top qualifiers are submitted to the Scholarship Selection Committee (established by the National Park Community College Foundation).
May 15 Finalists are announced.
August Scholarship funds are paid directly to the student's account at his or her college/university.
