2014 Freshman Honorees

2014 Sophmore Honoree

Jill Everton

Jill Everton graduated with High Honors and a 4.1 GPA from Lake Hamilton High School this past May. Jill plans to attend Arkansas Tech University where she will double major in Music Education and Psychology. During her high-school career, Jill was the principal trumpet player in the top wind ensemble at Lake Hamilton, and is a 6 year All-Region and a 3 year All-State trumpeter. In her senior year, Jill received such awards as the John Philip Sousa Band Award and the title of Lake Hamilton's Football Homecoming Queen. At Arkansas Tech, she plans on being a part of as many musical ensembles as allowed, specifically the University's Band of Distinction. Her double major will allow her to begin her studies not only in teaching, but also a career in music therapy.

Brett Faulkner

Brett Faulkner graduated Lake Hamilton High School with High Honors and a 4.2 grade point average. While at Lake Hamilton, he participated in the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, Recycle Club, Debate Team and served as section leader of the Lake Hamilton Drumline. Brett was chosen for All Region Band Percussionist 6 years, All Region Jazz Band Guitarist 5 years, All State Band Percussionist 3 years and the 2014 Four States Band. He has received Band Director's Award, Most Outstanding Musician twice; and in his senior year, Mr. Faulkner was awarded the Arkansas Governor's Award for Musical Excellence. Brett enters the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in pursuit of degrees in both music and Physics. Brett will be a member of the Razorback Marching Band.

Rebecca Houck

Rebecca Houck will be attending Henderson State University in the fall. A 2014 Cum Laude graduate of Lakeside High School, Rebecca was 1st chair trumpet in both the symphonic and jazz bands in her senior year. She served as head drum major for 2 years, a drum major for 3 years and in the Lakeside band for 7 years. At Henderson, Ms. Houck will be in the marching band and plans to study business and music.

Bryan Mock

Bryan Mock, a 2014 graduate from Lakeside High School, plans to attend Arkansas Tech University in the fall, pursuing a degree in Nursing. Bryan was involved in the Lakeside Choir program for 6 years and particpated in the Lakeside Chamber Choir during his junior and senior years. He plans to advance his music education by being involved in the Arkansas Tech choir program.

Van O’Rorke

Van O’Rorke, a 2013 graduate from Lakeside High School, attends Ouachita Baptist University as a Music Education Major. He is currently singing in the University Choir and the auditioned Ouachita Singers choir. He also plays percussion in the Tiger Steel Band. While at Lakeside, he participated in the Lakeside Chamber Singers, the Lakeside Band Program, Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the State Methodist Youth Choir.

The Fun City Chorus intends to award annual scholarships each year to students who intend to participate in a music program at their chosen two or four year institution. The amount of money available may be different each year. For 2014, five scholarships of $500 each were awarded to four local high school seniors and one returning college sophmore. For 2013, four scholarships of $500 each were awarded to four high school seniors.

These scholarships will be used for tuition, fees, and/or books and are awarded with the intent that this lightens the financial burden of these budding musicians.

The names of the scholarship recipients will be listed here once all scholarships are accepted.

General Timeline for 2015 Scholarship Applicants

February Announcements of scholarship availability are sent to area high school counselors and music teachers.
April 10 Application deadline
April-May Applications are reviewed by the Chorus and top qualifiers are submitted to the Scholarship Selection Committee (established by the National Park Community College Foundation).
May 15 Finalists are announced.
August Scholarship funds are paid directly to the student's account at his or her college/university.
